About the event
It is with great pleasure to announce that our 8th annual fundraiser “An evening of Chocolate, Champagne and Charity” benefiting the Houston Galveston Institute (HGI), will take place on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at the lovely home of Lily and Charles Foster.
For over 34 years, Houston Galveston Institute is one of Houston’s few mental health 501 (c) 3 non profits that provide educational programs and continuing education for mental health professionals. We work with, and learn from, people who are often considered chronic treatment failures, resistant and difficult. These clients and families are often blamed for their lack of success in treatment; however we believe the responsibility for success is shared with the professionals. At HGI, we are determined to learn from our clients; what they think they need; what they would like to accomplish; and, how we can best be of help. Our mission is transforming lives and communities with innovative and collaborative therapy, training and research. For more information, please see our web site www.talkhgi.org.
On November 5, 2011 HGI will honor Gwen and Ed Emmett for their commitment to Mental Health with our Champions for Change award. Gwen and Ed Emmett are true champions for mental health, especially children’s mental health. Their work in this regard, with the many initiatives that they have supported and been active participants with, include: the Joint County/City Commission for Children; the Harris County Juvenile Board; and, the Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative. In addition advocating through editorials in the Chronicle and bringing the Big Tent Conference to Houston, among many other activities, are well worthy of this honor.
Funds are raised to benefit the Houston Galveston Institute for clients and trainees who need financial assistance to access our programs. Your support is crucial to our community. Mark your calendars and make plans to join us for a lovely evening of fabulous music, gastronomique bites, decadent desserts, and a magnificent silent auction.
